Ingredients

  • 500 gm - moong dal
  • Two 1.5 tbsp - flour
  • 500 gm - sugar
  • 1.5 tsp - essence of rose
  • For Filling:
  • 1.5 - coconut, finely grated
  • 100 gm - khoya
  • 3 tbsp - sugar
  • 1 tsp - cardamom powder
  • 10 gm - finely sliced almonds
  • 10 gm - finely sliced pistachios
  • 10 gm - finely sliced raisins

How to Make Dal Pithe

  • Wash and soak the dal in water for a few hours, drain out the water and cook in very little water till soft and completely dry.
  • Remove from fire and grind to a fine paste.
  • Mix in the flour and knead to a smooth mixture.
  • Mix together coconut and sugar and cook over a slow fire till the mixture turns brown and sticky, mix in the rest of the filling ingredients and cook till smooth.
  • Remove from fire and divide the dal and the filling into equal number of portions.
  • Shape each portion of dal into an oval ball.
  • Put 2 cups water in sugar and prepare a syrup of one-third consistency. Remove from fire.
  • Now fry the balls to a golden brown colour and toss into the syrup.
  • Sprinkle rose essence on top and serve hot or cold.
