Ingredients

  • For dal:
  • 1 cup - channa dal
  • 1/2 cup - moong dal
  • 1/2 tsp - red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp - coriander (dhania) powder
  • 1/2 tsp - garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp - ginger and garlic paste
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 fl oz - water
  • For pithi preparation:
  • 1 cup - flour
  • 1/2 tsp - cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp - red chilli powder
  • 1/2 - cheese
  • Black salt and pepper for taste
  • To fry:
  • 2 tsp - ghee
  • 1/2 tsp - cumin seeds
  • 2 - big tomatoes
  • 2 - onions
  • 2 - green chillies
  • Chopped ginger and garlic (to taste)
  • Some cilantro leaves

How to Make Dal Pithi

  • First, put gram dal (channa) and moong dal along with red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala, ginger and garlic paste and little bit of salt and water into a pressure cooker.
  • Keep this on medium flame and to cook for 15 minutes.
  • Now mix cumin powder, red chilli, black salt, and black pepper into the flour and make a mixture like chapatti atta.
  • After that, make small and thin cylindrical pieces of flour by rubbing with your palm and sprinkle with flour powder to avoid stickiness.
  • Open pressure cooker after 2 whistles and add the prepared pithi into it. Cook again for another 15 minutes.
  • When the preparation is cooked well, then keep it aside and put non-stick pan on gas.
  • Pour 2 tsps ghee and add cumin seeds. When cumin seeds splutter, add chopped ginger, garlic and onion.
  • When onion becomes golden brown, add tomatoes and stir it for a few minutes.
  • After that add cilantro leaves and turn off the gas flame.
  • Now mix this fried preparation into dal pithi mixture and stir until smooth.
  • Serve with rice and garnish with chopped red chillies, cilantro leaves and ghee.
  • You can also serve this with salad and yogurt.
