Ingredients

  • 2 cups - wheat flour
  • 1 cup - dal
  • 1 cup - mixed vegetables (carrot, paneer, cabbage, sprouts)
  • 10 to 12 - curry leaves
  • 1 - tomato
  • 1 - green chillies
  • 2 tsp - oil
  • 1 tsp - garam masala
  • 1 tsp - chilli powder
  • 1 tsp - ajwain
  • 1 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp - mustard seeds
  • 2 - dry red chillies
  • 1 tbsp - freshly grated coconut
  • A pinch - asafoetida
  • 1/2 tsp - lemon juice
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Dal Potlis

  • Cook dal till done. Add 4 to 5 cups of water.
  • Add salt, turmeric powder, curry leaves, garam masala and salt to taste, and boil.
  • Meanwhile, knead flour, add salt, turmeric powder, and ajwain.
  • Divide the vegetable mixture into equal quantities to fill in the potlis.
  • Make small balls, and roll out 2 inch puris.
  • Put the vegetable filling in the puris and give it the shape of potlis.
  • When the dal starts boiling add the potlis.
  • Cook till the potlis start floating to the top.
  • Heat oil, add mustard seeds, red chillies and asafoetida.
  • Pour over the dal and mix well.
  • Add jaggery, lemon juice, tomato and grated coconut and cook for 2 mins.
  • Garnish with freshly grated coconut and chopped coriander.
  • Serve hot with boiled rice and roasted pappad.
