Delicious as starters or finger food, Kababs are popular at parties and bars around the world. Dal Shammi Kababs is a Vegetarian Kabab that can be served as a starter or a snack.  

Dal Shammi Kababs are made with channa dal as the key ingredient. A wide range of spices and masalas - arrow root powder, red chilli powder, garam masala, cumin seeds and turmeric powder - are added to get kababs with a meaty texture. 

The thick round tikkis are coated finely with bread crumbs and then deep fried.

Ingredients

  • 4 cup - chana dal
  • 6 tbsp - coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • 13 tbsp - arrowroot powder
  • 150 g - bread crumb
  • 8 tsp - red chilli powder
  • 2 tsp - garam masala powder
  • 2 tsp - cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - turmeric powder
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Dal Shammi Kababs

  • Soak the dal for half an hour.
  • Boil the dal in 4 cups water with salt and turmeric powder till the dal becomes tender and the water is absorbed
  • After letting it cool, mash well.
  • Now add the finely chopped coriander leaves, red chilli powder, garam masala, cumin seeds and arrowroot powder. Mix well
  • Make thick round tikkis with the dough, coat with bread crumbs and deep fry in hot oil.
  • Reduce to a medium flame and cook till crisp.
  • Serve hot with green chutney.
