Ingredients

  • Bengal Gram dal (channa dal) - 1 cup
  • Onion - 1 cup, finely chopped
  • Green chillies - 2-3, finely chopped
  • Coriander leaves - 1/2 cup, chopped
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Asafetida - 1/2 tsp
  • Grated Coconut - 4 tbsp
  • Salt - to taste
  • Oil - to fry
  • How to Make Dal Squares:

    1. Soak the dal in water for 2 hours
    2. Grind to form a smooth, semi solid batter
    3. Now add the onion, green chillies, coriander leaves, turmeric, asafoetida, grated coconut, and salt
    4. Pour in a deep, greased container with a depth of about 1 cm and steam for 15 minutes
    5. Cool and cut into small squares
    6. Deep fry in hot oil and serve with chutney.
