Ingredients

  • 1 cup - broken wheat
  • 1/2 cup - split pigeon pea
  • 2-3 - green chillies, chopped
  • 1 - onion, chopped
  • 1 - carrot, finely chopped
  • 1 - green capsicum, finely chopped
  • 1 cup - green peas
  • 1 tsp - mustard seeds
  • 1 pinch - asafetida
  • 4-5 - curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp - tamarind pulp
  • 1/2 tsp - turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 4 tbsp - clarified butter , 1 tbsp - more
  • 4 cup - water or as required

How to Make Dalia Bhaat (Broken Wheat Risotto )

  • In a pressure cooker splutter mustard seeds and add asafoetida.
  • Add curry leaves and saute onion for a minute.
  • To this add vegetables and saute till done.
  • Blend broken wheat and split pigeon pea to this and add four cups of water and bring it to boil.
  • Now add turmeric powder, tamarind pulp and salt.
  • Cover and cook till it whistles 4 times.
  • Open when all the steam evaporates by itself.
  • Drizzle with a tbsp of clarified butter .
  • Serve hot.
