  • 3 well beaten eggs
  • 1 cup - each of castor sugar and refined flour or maida
  • 1/4 tsp - salt
  • 1 tsp - baking powder
  • 1.5 cups - pitted and sliced dates
  • 1 tsp - essence of vanilla
  • 1 cup - broken walnut

How to Make Date bars

  • Beat eggs with sugar until very thick. Mix in the flour, salt and baking powder.
  • Add dates, essence and walnuts.
  • Bake in a waxed paper-lined pan in a moderate oven for half an hour or till a knife inserted comes out clean.
  • While still warm cut into bars and roll in icing sugar.
