Ingredients

  • Yam - 500 g
  • Oil - 4 tbsp
  • Shallots (small onions) - 1/2 cup, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 1 tbsp, minced
  • Ginger - 2 tbsp, minced
  • Chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Black pepper powder - 1 tsp
  • Cumin powder - 1 tsp
  • Dark soya sauce - 1 tsp
  • Vinegar - 1 tbsp
  • Sugar - 1 tsp
  • MSG - 1/2 tsp, optional
  • Salt to taste
  • How to Make Devilled Yam:

    1. Cut the washed and peeled yam into big chunks and boil until tender. Drain well
    2. Now cool and grate it coarsely.
    3. Heat oil in a pan and saute the shallots, garlic and ginger until pink.
    4. Add the grated yam and stir fry till it browns.
    5. Mix all the powders with 1/2 cup of water and add to the pan.
    6. Cook for 1 minute.
    7. Now add the remaining ingredients, cook for 1 more minute and remove from fire.
    8. Serve hot with fried rice.
