  • 2 - tender drumsticks
  • 1/2 kg - yellow cooking cucumber
  • 2 cups - grated coconut
  • 8 to 10 - dry red chillies
  • 8 - cloves
  • 2 pods - garlic, peeled and crushed lightly
  • 1 - small piece of tamarind
  • salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp - oil

How to Make Drumsticks and Cucumber Koddel

  • Cut the drumsticks into 5-cm long pieces.
  • Cut the cucumber lengthwise (do not peel the skin). Discard the seeds and the core. Cut the remaining cucumber into 4-cm cubes.
  • Combine both the vegetables. Add enough water to cover and cook.
  • Meanwhile, roast the red chillies in 2 tsp of oil.
  • Grind the coconut and tamarind to a smooth paste.
  • Add salt and the paste to the cooked vegetables. Add water to get a gravy of medium pouring consistency and simmer for 3-4 minutes.
  • Heat the remaining oil and saute the garlic until brown. Add to the koddel.
  • Serve with steamed rice.
