  • 100g - boiled drumstick pieces with salt (2 sticks approx)
  • 1.5 tsp - oil/ghee
  • 500ml - tamarind water (made with 2 tsp tamarind paste)
  • 1 small onion, chopped fine
  • 1 tsp - any rasam powder
  • 2 red chilli, (broken into bits)
  • 1 to 2 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed garlic
  • 1 sprig - curry leaves
  • 1 tsp - chopped, coriander
  • 1/4 tsp - mustard seeds
  • Cumin, a pinch
  • Asafetida a pinch
  • Turmeric powder, a pinch
  • 1 tsp - jaggery, powdered

How to Make Drumsticks in tangy tamarind rasam

  • Heat oil/ghee, add mustard seeds, asafoetida, garlic, red chilli, cumin and curry leaves.
  • Fry till the mustard splutters.
  • Add chopped onion and turmeric powder and fry till they become soft.
  • Add boiled drumsticks and tamarind water, salt, rasam powder and jaggery and let it boil for 2 mins.
  • Sprinkle chopped coriander and remove from fire.
  • Serve with hot plain rice along with papads.
