Ingredients

  • To pressure cook:
  • 1/2 cup - Rice
  • 1/4 cup - Toor Dal
  • 2.5 cups - Water (or adjust according to desired consistency)
  • To roast:
  • 1 tbsp - Coriander seeds
  • 1 tbsp - Channa dal
  • 4 - Red Chillies
  • 2 - Cloves
  • 1" stick - Cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp - Coconut grated
  • Seasoning:
  • 1 tsp - Mustard Seeds
  • 1 tsp - Jeera
  • a pinch - Asafoetida
  • 8 - 10 - Curry leaves
  • 10 - Cashew nuts
  • 1 tsp - Raisins (optional)
  • Other ingredients:
  • 2 cups of Veggies (like onions, potatoes, carrots, peas, corn)
  • 2 pods - Garlic finely chopped
  • Salt
  • a pinch - Turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp - Oil
  • 2 tbsp - Ghee
  • Tamarind (small Lime size)
  • Coriander leaves- for garnish
  • How to Make Easy Bisi Bele Bath:

    1. Pressure cook rice and dal together with water till they turn soft.
    2. Roast the ingredients as listed except coconut, till it turns golden brown and then add coconut and saute for one minute and grind it to a fine powder.
    3. Soak tamarind in warm water and extract 2 cups of tamarind water and set aside.
    4. Heat oil in a pan and saute the hopped vegetables and garlic for 5 minutes.
    5. Add salt, turmeric powder and tamarind extract.
    6. Let the mixture boil for 10 minutes till the vegetables are cooked and raw smell of tamarind goes off.
    7. Add the ground masala powder, cooked rice and dal and salt if necessary.
    8. Mix well and turn off the heat.
    9. For the seasoning, heat ghee in a pan and add mustard seeds, jeera, asafoetida, curry leaves, cashew nuts and raisins and let it splutter and slight roasted.
    10. Pour the seasoning on the vegetable mixture.
    11. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
