Ingredients

  • 2 cups - moong (split or whole)
  • 1 - onion, chopped
  • 1 - tomato, chopped
  • 1 - potato, boiled and chopped
  • 1 tsp - sambar powder
  • 1 tsp - Garam Masala
  • 1 tsp - ginger-garlic paste
  • 1-2 - Green chillies
  • 1/4 tsp - Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 tsp - Jeera seeds
  • A pinch of Hing
  • oil to fry
  • salt to taste

How to Make Easy Moong Usal

  • Soak the moong for half an hour in water.
  • Drain the moong and pressure cook up to 3 whistles, with a little turmeric powder
  • In a kadai, put the oil, mustard seeds, jeera seeds and hing.
  • When they splutter, add the onions and fry till they are transparent
  • Add the tomatoes, green chillies and ginger-garlic paste, fry for a minute
  • Add the cooked moong, potato, sambar powder and garam masala, mix well
  • Add salt and cook for some more time.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with rice or roti.
