Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup - Channa dal
  • Little over 1 cup - Powdered jaggery
  • 2.5 cup - Maida
  • A pinch of Turmeric powder
  • 3 tsp - Ghee
  • 2 - Cardamom
  • 3 tsp - Grated coconut
  • 2 tbsp - Cooking oil

How to Make Easy Poli

  • Soak the channa dal in boiling water for about 1 hour.
  • Decant the excess water and grind into a paste along with the coconut without adding too much water.
  • Mix the dal paste with jaggery and cardamom.
  • Heat up a heavy bottomed pan and add this mixture to it and stir over a medium flame for about 5 minutes.
  • When it no longer sticks to the sides of the pan, add the ghee and mix well.
  • Set aside to cool for some time.
  • Make a soft dough of the maida, adding the turmeric powder and cooking oil.
  • Add water little by little and mix them uniformly to form a soft dough. Set aside for some time.
  • Divide the sweet filling and the covering (maida dough) into equal number of balls.
  • Over a well-dusted rolling board, flatten out the small ball-sized quantity of the maida dough.
  • Place a smaller sized ball of the sweet filling and cover it completely using the flattened maida dough.
  • Dust well on either sides and flatten it out once again uniformly and into a thin poli.
  • Continue the process with the remaining dough and mixture.
  • Heat up a tawa and when it is very hot, place the polis one at a time and apply oil / ghee all around and cook.
  • Turn and cook on both sides until pink spots appear on the outer covering. Serve hot with ghee.
