  • 3/4 cup - Channa dal
  • Little over 1 cup - Powdered Jaggery
  • 2.5 cup - Maida
  • A pinch of Turmeric powder
  • 3 tsp - Ghee
  • 2 - Cardamom
  • 3 tsp - Grated Coconut
  • 2 tbsp - Cooking oil
  • How to Make Easy Poli:

    1. Soak the channa dal in boiling water for about 1 hour.
    2. Decant the excess water and grind into a paste along with the coconut without adding too much water.
    3. Mix the dal paste with jaggery and cardamom.
    4. Heat up a heavy bottomed pan and add this mixture to it and stir over a medium flame for about 5 minutes.
    5. When it no longer sticks to the sides of the pan, add the ghee and mix well.
    6. Set aside to cool for some time.
    7. Make a soft dough of the maida, adding the turmeric powder and cooking oil.
    8. Add water little by little and mix them uniformly to form a soft dough. Set aside for some time.
    9. Divide the sweet filling and the covering (maida dough) into equal number of balls.
    10. Over a well-dusted rolling board, flatten out the small ball-sized quantity of the maida dough.
    11. Place a smaller sized ball of the sweet filling and cover it completely using the flattened maida dough.
    12. Dust well on either sides and flatten it out once again uniformly and into a thin poli.
    13. Continue the process with the remaining dough and mixture.
    14. Heat up a tawa and when it is very hot, place the polis one at a time and apply oil / ghee all around and cook.
    15. Turn and cook on both sides until pink spots appear on the outer covering. Serve hot with ghee.
