Ingredients

  • Chayote squash - 2 cups (diced)
  • Bengal gram dal - 1/2 cup
  • Salt - As required
  • For seasoning:
  • Oil - 2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • Grind together:
  • Red chillies - 6
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Black gram dal - 1 tsp
  • Fry the above in a little oil and grind with 1/4 cup of grated fresh coconut.
  • A few curry leaves.

How to Make Easy Poricha Kootu

  • Scrape the outer skin of the Chayote squash and dice into 1 inch cubes.
  • Cook it along with Bengal gram dal with enough water till dal becomes soft to touch.
  • Add the ground paste and salt, and cook till the gravy becomes thick.
  • Heat oil, add the seasoning, and mix it with kootu.
  • Garnish with curry leaves.
  • Serve hot with cooked rice.
