Ingredients

  • Chayote squash - 2 cups (diced)
  • Bengal Gram dal - 1/2 cup
  • Salt - As required
  • For seasoning:
  • Oil - 2 tsp
  • Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • Grind together:
  • Red Chillies - 6
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Black gram dal - 1 tsp
  • Fry the above in a little oil and grind with 1/4 cup of grated fresh coconut.
  • A few curry leaves.
  • How to Make Easy Poricha Kootu:

    1. Scrape the outer skin of the Chayote squash and dice into 1 inch cubes.
    2. Cook it along with Bengal gram dal with enough water till dal becomes soft to touch.
    3. Add the ground paste and salt, and cook till the gravy becomes thick.
    4. Heat oil, add the seasoning, and mix it with kootu.
    5. Garnish with curry leaves.
    6. Serve hot with cooked rice.
