Ingredients

  • 1 kg - Dry Prawns or 2 kgs - fresh Prawns.
  • 1 tbsp - Turmeric Powder.
  • 1/4 Liter - Sweet oil/Gingili oil.
  • 1/2 Bottle - Vinegar.
  • 250 gms - Ginger.
  • 250 gms - Kashmiri chillies.
  • 250 gms - Garlic.
  • 2 kgs - tomatoes, chopped.
  • 1/2 kg - Sugar or jaggery.
  • How to Make Easy Prawn Balchao:

    1. Dry prawns should be soaked in water for one hour.
    2. Then apply turmeric powder and fry in oil.
    3. If prawns are fresh, clean, shell the prawns, and devein the prawns. Apply turmeric powder and fry.
    4. Grind all the masala ingredients in vinegar.
    5. Fry the masala in oil that is leftover from frying the prawns.
    6. Add tomatoes, jaggery and fried prawns and cook on slow fire for about an hour, stirring all the time.
    7. Cool and then bottle.
