Ingredients

  • 1 cup - rice flour
  • 1 tsp - oil
  • 1 pinch - salt
  • 3/4 cup - sesame seeds
  • 2 tbsps - grated dry coconut
  • 3/4 cup - jaggery

How to Make Ellu kozhukattai

  • Dry roast sesame seeds, cool and grind with the coconut and jaggery into a slightly coarse powder.
  • Make plum-sized balls out of the mix, and keep aside.
  • Mix rice flour, salt and oil in a bowl and make a soft dough adding water little by little.
  • Take a small lemon size ball from the dough, flatten it on your palm and place a jaggery ball in the middle and cover the edges.
  • Boil 1/2 litre of water, adding 1/2 tsp of sesame oil to it.
  • Gently drop each ball into the boiling water.
  • Boil for 5 minutes and cook for another 5 minutes till the cooked kozhukattais start floating up.
  • Remove the kozhukattais gently using a perforated ladle and drain them.
