Ingredients

  • Pearl spot or Pomfret - 1 kg
  • Grated Coconut - 1 cup
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp -
  • A pinch of Turmeric powder
  • 1 cup - sliced Onions
  • 2 inch piece - chopped Ginger
  • 4 - sliced Tomatoes
  • 6 - slit Green chillies
  • 3 tbsp - Ghee
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp - Vinegar
  • How to Make Fish Moilee:

    1. Grind the coconut with cumin seeds, turmeric powder and extract the milk twice.
    2. Use 1 cup of hot water for the first extraction and 1.5 cups of water for the seconds extraction. Keep the two cups of coconut milk separate.
    3. Heat ghee in a pan. Add the onions, ginger and green chillies and saute till fragrant.
    4. Add tomatoes and saute till pulpy.
    5. Add the second extraction of coconut milk and boil for 5 minutes.
    6. Add salt and the fish.
    7. Cook till done.
    8. Add the first extraction of the coconut milk.
    9. Boil for a few minutes on low heat.
    10. Add the vinegar and mix well.
    11. Remove from fire and serve hot with rice.
