Ingredients

  • 450 gm rice, washed and soaked for 40 mins.
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 tsp - cumin seeds
  • 3 cardamom pods
  • 1-inch cinnamon sticks
  • 8 cloves
  • 8 black peppercorns
  • 4 tsp - garlic, crushed
  • 4 tsp - grated ginger
  • 4 green chillies, whole or chopped
  • 4 medium fish steaks, cut into chunks
  • 115 gm - prawns
  • 150 gm - peeled, chopped tomatoes
  • 6 small potatoes, peeled and cut into quarters
  • 250 ml - water
  • a handful of chopped coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • 25 gm - butter or margarine

How to Make Fish pulao

  • Wash and soak the rice.
  • Heat oil, add the onion, cumin seeds, cardamom pods, cinnamon, cloves and peppercorns.
  • When the onion has softened, add the garlic, ginger and chillies and fry for 2 mins.
  • Then add the fish, prawns, tomatoes, rice, potatoes and water, along with the chopped coriander leaves and salt to taste.
  • Bring to boil; cover and simmer over low heat for 40 mins. until the rice has cooked.
  • Add the butter or margarine in blobs, while hot.
