  • 1 loaf - bread, approx 400 g
  • 300 g - Sugar
  • 1/2 litre - Milk
  • 6 tbsp - condensed Milk
  • 250 g - Ghee or oil
  • 1/2 tsp - vanilla or rose essence
  • A few nuts such as Almonds and Walnuts
  • How to Make Fooigas (Fried Bread Sweet):

    1. Cut the bread into small squares of about 1 inch.
    2. Heat ghee in a pan and fry the bread pieces till golden brown.
    3. Keep aside to cool.
    4. Make a thick syrup of the sugar with a little water and keep aside.
    5. Arrange the fried bread in a shallow dish.
    6. Mix the milk, essence and condensed milk together and boil till the milk is quite thick and the quantity reduces.
    7. Pour this milk over the fried bread then pour the sugar syrup.
    8. Sprinkle the chopped nuts on top.
