Ingredients

  • 1 cup - Foxtail Millet
  • 1/2 cup - Sprouted green gram
  • 1/4 tsp - Asafetida powder
  • 1 tsp - Grated Ginger
  • 1/4 cup - Ghee or Oil
  • 1/2 tsp - Cumin seeds
  • 10-15 - Peppercorns
  • 10 - Cashew nuts
  • Salt
  • Few Curry leaves
  • How to Make Foxtail Millet and Moong Sprouts Pongal:

    1. Wash the foxtail millet and sprouted moong dal together.
    2. Put them in pressure cooker with three cups of water, ginger, asafoetida powder, salt and cook up to 3 whistles.
    3. Heat ghee or oil, fry the cumin seeds, peppercorns, cashew nuts and curry leaves until they turn brown.
    4. Once the pressure is released, add the tempered spices, cashews directly to the pressure cooker, toss them well until it is well mixed.
    5. Serve hot with sambar or coconut chutney.
