  • 3/4 cup - Foxtail millet/Thinai
  • 1/4 cup - Yellow moong dal
  • 1.25 cup - Jaggery
  • 1/4 tsp - Cardamom powder
  • 3 tbsp - Ghee
  • Few cashews
  • A pinch Edible Camphor (pacha karpooram)
  • How to Make Foxtail Millet Sweet Pongal:

    1. Dry roast the foxtail millet and moong dal together.
    2. Wash and pressure cook with 3 cups of water till 4 whistles and put off the stove.
    3. Boil jaggery in half a cup of water.
    4. Strain it and keep it aside.
    5. Once the steam gets released from the cooker, add the jaggery syrup to the cooked millet and dal mixture, mash it and cook for few more minutes.
    6. Add cardamom powder, edible camphor and put off the stove.
    7. Heat ghee and fry the cashews until they turn golden brown.
    8. Transfer immediately to the sweet pongal and stir.
