Ingredients

  • 1 - pomfret or any other fish
  • 1/2 - coconut
  • 1 tsp - vinegar
  • Salt to taste
  • 5 tbsp - cooking oil
  • 8 - dry red chillies
  • 1 - turmeric
  • 1 tbsp - coriander
  • 1 tsp - cumin seeds
  • 5 - peppercorns
  • 2 - onions (sliced)
  • 2 - green chillies
  • 1 - ginger (sliced)
  • 4 cloves - garlic (sliced)
  • 1 tsp - salt

How to Make Fried Fish Bafat

  • Grind dry red chillies, turmeric, coriander, cumin seeds and peppercorns to a dry masala.
  • Grind onions, green chillies, ginger and garlic to make a paste.
  • Grind the coconut and extract half a cup of thick (first milk) and one cup of thin (second milk) juice.
  • Wash, clean, remove scales and fins and cut the fish into pieces.
  • Apply salt and keep aside for 15 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a flat frying pan and fry the fish pieces and keep aside.
  • In a vessel, heat the thin coconut juice (second milk) and add the minced paste and cook on medium fire until the onions are soft.
  • Add the ground dry masala and stir.
  • Let it boil for a while and add the fried fish with vinegar and salt to taste.
  • Let it simmer for a few minutes. Add the thick coconut juice (first milk) and bring it to a boil.
