Ingredients

  • raw jack fruit - 1/2 kg
  • rice flour - 2 to 3 tbsp
  • chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • asafetida - 1/2 tsp
  • oil to deep fry
  • salt to taste

How to Make Fried Jack Fruit Slices

  • Cut away the thorny green skin and the white core of the jack fruit.
  • Cut the fruit into one and a half cm thick slices.
  • Rub the slices with chilli powder, asafetida and salt.
  • Keep aside for 15-20 minutes.
  • Sprinkle the slices with 1 tbsp of water and about 2 tbsp of rice flour.
  • This will make the Masala stick to the slices and also give a crisp outer crust.
  • Deep fry the slices in moderately hot oil till brown.
  • Drain well and serve hot.
  • The slices should have a crisp crust and remain soft inside.
