  • 1/2 cup - Toor Dal
  • 1.5 tbsp - sambar powder
  • 1 - small Lemon size Tamarind
  • 2 tbsp - Manathakkali vathal/Sundaikai vathal
  • 3 tsp - oil
  • Ghee to fry manathakkalikai vathal /sundaikai vathal
  • Salt for your taste
  • How to Make Fried Sambar:

    1. Cook toor dal in a pressure cooker till soft.
    2. Extract the tamarind juice and keep it ready.
    3. Heat the pan with oil.
    4. Once the oil is hot, add the sambar powder and fry the sambar powder till the colour changes to brown.
    5. Add the tamarind juice and keep the flame as medium. Add the salt.
    6. Add the toor dal once the mixture is boiled. Keep it in medium flame till the mixture starts boiling.
    7. Fry the manathakkalikai vathal/sundaikaai vathal in the ghee and add the same in the mixture.
    8. Fried sambar is ready to serve.
