Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup - Toor Dal
  • 1.5 tbsp - sambar powder
  • 1 - small Lemon size Tamarind
  • 2 tbsp - Manathakkali vathal/Sundaikai vathal
  • 3 tsp - oil
  • Ghee to fry manathakkalikai vathal /sundaikai vathal
  • Salt for your taste

How to Make Fried Sambar

  • Cook toor dal in a pressure cooker till soft.
  • Extract the tamarind juice and keep it ready.
  • Heat the pan with oil.
  • Once the oil is hot, add the sambar powder and fry the sambar powder till the colour changes to brown.
  • Add the tamarind juice and keep the flame as medium. Add the salt.
  • Add the toor dal once the mixture is boiled. Keep it in medium flame till the mixture starts boiling.
  • Fry the manathakkalikai vathal/sundaikaai vathal in the ghee and add the same in the mixture.
  • Fried sambar is ready to serve.
