Ingredients

  • 1 cup - chholar daal
  • 1- large onion sliced finely
  • 1 - large potato cut into cubes
  • 3 - dry red chillies
  • 1 tbsp - white cumin powder
  • 1/2 tbsp - coriander powder
  • 1/2 tbsp - curry leaves
  • 1/2 tbsp - turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tbsp - salt 1/2 tbsp - sugar
  • 1 tbsp - oil
  • 3 - cloves
  • 3 - cardamom pods
  • 1/2 tbsp - cinnamon powder
  • Ingredients for Ghee Bhat:
  • 2 cups - basmati rice
  • 1 tbsp - black mustard seeds
  • A handful of dry curry leaves.
  • A handful of chives
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 tbsps - ghee

How to Make Ghee Bhaat with Chholar Daal

  • For the ghee rice, splutter mustard in oil.
  • Add in the remaining ingredients and saute for some time.
  • Then add enough water and cook till done.
  • Meanwhile, heat oil in pressure cooker.
  • Add red chillies, onion and fry.
  • Add cubed potato.
  • Mix cumin, coriander, curry leaves, and turmeric powder in 1/2 cup water.
  • Add salt and sugar. Stir.
  • Add daal and pressure cook.
  • Meanwhile, dry roast cloves, cardamom and cinnamon powder.
  • Add to the cooked daal.
  • Let the daal thicken on medium flame.
  • Serve hot with rice.
