Ingredients

  • Raw ginger - 2 to 3 inches
  • Channa dal - 3 tsp
  • Red chilli - 2 to 3
  • Curry leaves - 2 sprigs
  • Mint - a few
  • Coriander leaves - a few
  • Tamarind paste - 3 tsp
  • Urad dal, mustard, hing - for seasoning
  • Oil - 4 to 5 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Water - 2 cups

How to Make Ginger- Dal Chutney

  • Put 1 tsp of oil in a pan and fry the channa dal till it is golden brown.
  • Cut the ginger into small pieces and add it to the pan along with the channa dal.
  • Also, add red chilli, tamarind or tamarind paste, all the curry leaves, salt and hing.
  • Fry the above for a minute and let it cool.
  • When it is cool, grind it in a mixie by adding some water.
  • Heat the remaining oil in a pan and add mustard.
  • When it splutters, add urad dal, a small piece of red chilli and two curry leaves.
  • Now, add the ground mixture with the remaining cup of water.
  • Stir it now and then.
  • When it starts to boil, remove from the stove.
  • It is ready to serve.
  • This chutney is good with idli and dosa.
