Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup - moong dal
  • 1 small - carrot
  • 1 - tomato
  • 1 pinch - turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp - chilli powder
  • 1 tsp - pepper powder
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp - lemon juice
  • To temper:
  • 1 - clove
  • 1/4 inch piece - cinnamon
  • 3 cloves - garlic
  • 1/2 - onion

How to Make Golden Lentil Soup

  • Soak moong dal for 15 mins, drain water and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add cinnamon, cloves and fry it for a min.
  • Then add garlic and onions allow it to saute until onions turn golden brown.
  • Then add carrot, tomatoes, saute until tomatoes turn slightly mushy.
  • Now add soaked moong dal, turmeric powder, chilli powder, and salt.
  • Add 3 cups of water and pressure cook for 3 - 4 whistles.
  • When pressure releases, open the cooker and let it cool.
  • Discard cinnamon and cloves alone, and grind the remaining ingredients in a mixie until smooth.
  • Add pepper powder and mix well.
  • Add water if the soup is thick, adjust according to your taste.
  • Garnish with lemon juice and serve hot with bread/soup stick.
