Ingredients

  • Green gram - 1/2 cup
  • Tender banana stem - 1/2 kg
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Green chillies - 4, chopped
  • Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
  • Coriander leaves - 2 tbsp, chopped
  • Lime juice - 2 tbsp
  • Sugar - 1 tsp
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste.

How to Make Green Gram and Banana Stem Sabji

  • Soak green gram in water for 2-3 hours.
  • Cut banana stem into thin slices.
  • Chop the slices into tiny pieces.
  • Drain the green gram from water and add fresh water just to cover them.
  • Place in a thick bottomed pan and simmer gently.
  • When the gram is half cooked, add banana stem and turmeric powder and after 10 mins add salt and sugar.
  • Simmer for few more minutes.
  • Heat oil in a kadai.
  • Add cumin seeds.
  • When they splutter, add green chillies.
  • After few seconds, add the gram and vegetable mixture.
  • Add grated coconut.
  • Stir well and remove from fire.
  • Serve sprinkled with coriander leaves and lime juice.
