Ingredients

  • 2 cups - shelled Green peas
  • 1 tsp - Mustard Seeds
  • 2 tsp - black gram (urad) dal
  • 2 - dry red chillies, broken into pieces
  • 2 cups - onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cups - tomato, chopped
  • 6 - green chillies, slit
  • 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 4 tbsp - coriander leaves, chopped
  • 2 to 3 tsp - jaggery, optional
  • few Curry leaves
  • salt to taste
  • 3 tbsp - oil
  • How to Make Green Peas Palya:

    1. Cook green peas in 1 cup of water till they become soft.
    2. Heat oil in a kadai.
    3. Add mustards.
    4. When they splutter, add dal.
    5. When it turns light brown, add red chillies, curry leaves and onion.
    6. Fry till onion is golden brown.
    7. Add tomato, green chillies and turmeric powder.
    8. Cook covered and on low heat till tomato is reduced to a pulp.
    9. Add green peas, salt and optional jaggery.
    10. Allow it to simmer till excess liquid is absorbed and the palya is like a lump.
    11. Garnish with coriander leaves.
    12. Serve hot with poori or chapathi.
