Ingredients

  • 2 cups - shelled Green peas
  • 1 tsp - Mustard Seeds
  • 2 tsp - black gram (urad) dal
  • 2 - dry red chillies, broken into pieces
  • 2 cups - onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cups - tomato, chopped
  • 6 - green chillies, slit
  • 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 4 tbsp - coriander leaves, chopped
  • 2 to 3 tsp - jaggery, optional
  • few Curry leaves
  • salt to taste
  • 3 tbsp - oil

How to Make Green Peas Palya

  • Cook green peas in 1 cup of water till they become soft.
  • Heat oil in a kadai.
  • Add mustards.
  • When they splutter, add dal.
  • When it turns light brown, add red chillies, curry leaves and onion.
  • Fry till onion is golden brown.
  • Add tomato, green chillies and turmeric powder.
  • Cook covered and on low heat till tomato is reduced to a pulp.
  • Add green peas, salt and optional jaggery.
  • Allow it to simmer till excess liquid is absorbed and the palya is like a lump.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with poori or chapathi.
