Ingredients

  • shelled green peas - 3 cup
  • tamarind size of a walnut
  • black gram (Urad) Dal - 1 tbsp
  • Bengal (Channa) Dal - 1 tbsp
  • curry leaves few
  • mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • red chillies - 4
  • oil - 3 tbsp
  • cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • green chillies - 2, slit
  • salt - to taste

How to Make Green Peas Podi

  • Cook green peas with enough water till soft. Drain and reserve the water. Mash the peas lightly.
  • Soak tamarind in 1/2 cup of the water in which peas were cooked for about 15 minutes and extract the pulp.
  • Dry roast both the Dals, curry leaves, chillies and mustard. Cool and powder them together.
  • Heat oil in a Kadai. Add cumin seeds. When they splutter, add chillies. Fry for few seconds.
  • Add the ground powder and tamarind and tamarind pulp. Simmer till the mixture is very thick.
  • Add the peas and salt. Cook and stir till almost dry.
