Ingredients

  • oil - 1 tbsp
  • Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida - 1/4tsp
  • Onion - 1/2 cup, chopped
  • Green chillies 2-3, chopped
  • Ginger - 1 tsp, minced
  • shelled Green peas - 2 cup
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • salt to taste
  • Sugar - 1 tsp
  • grated Coconut - 2 tbsp
  • Lime juice - 2 tsp
  • Coriander leaves -1 tbsp, chopped
  • How to Make Green Peas Usal:

    1. Heat oil in a Kadai. Add mustard. When it begins to splutter, add asafoetida and onion.
    2. Fry till onion is light brown.
    3. Add green chillies and ginger. Fry for few seconds.
    4. Add green peas, turmeric powder and 1/2 cup water.
    5. Cover and cook on low flame till green peas are cooked.
    6. Add salt, sugar and cook for few more minutes.
    7. By this time the peas mixture must be almost dry.
    8. If there is excess moisture, increase the flame and cook, stir till it is dry.
    9. Switch off the flame and sprinkle the peas with lime juice, grated coconut and coriander leaves.
    10. Mix well and serve hot.
