Gujarati Kadhi for Vrat is a tangy curry with a buttermilk/yoghurt base. 

This version of the kadhi is served during the Navratri vrat and uses Singhare ka Atta or Waterchestnut Flour instead of besan. Sour curd works best for Gujarati Kadhi. 

Gujarati Kadhi is best served with steamed rice or khichdi.

How to Make Gujarati Kadhi for Vrat

  • Beat the dahi and atta together till smooth.
  • Add salt, chilli powder, cinnamon powder, sugar and water, mix well.
  • In a heavy based pan, heat oil, add cumin seeds, curry leaves and whole dry red chillies.
  • When cumin splutters, add the dahi mixture, increase flame and bring to a boil.
  • Leave to simmer for about 15-20 minutes. Serve hot garnished with fresh coriander leaves.
