Ingredients

  • 1 big - Hilsa fish, chopped into medium-sized pieces
  • 50g - Mustard seeds, soaked and ground to a paste
  • 15 g - Poppy seeds (khus khus/posto)
  • Mustard oil for frying fish
  • 3-4 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 3-4 - Green chillies
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Hilsa in mustard sauce

  • Clean and chop the fish.
  • Marinate it with turmeric powder and salt for 30 mins.
  • Now heat mustard oil in a pan and shallow fry the fish pieces one by one on both the sides.
  • Keep aside.
  • Heat mustard oil in a pan and add the mustard paste and the poppy seeds paste to thicken the gravy. Add the fried fish to the this.
  • Stir with a spatula and allow the fish to mix well with the paste.
  • Now add the salt and some water very gently.
  • The gravy should remain thick.
  • Add green chillies to the mixture
  • Serve hot with steamed rice.
