  • 1 big - Hilsa fish, chopped into medium-sized pieces
  • 50g - Mustard seeds, soaked and ground to a paste
  • 15 g - Poppy Seeds (khus khus/posto)
  • Mustard oil for frying fish
  • 3-4 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 3-4 - Green chillies
  • Salt to taste
  • How to Make Hilsa in mustard sauce:

    1. Clean and chop the fish.
    2. Marinate it with turmeric powder and salt for 30 mins.
    3. Now heat mustard oil in a pan and shallow fry the fish pieces one by one on both the sides.
    4. Keep aside.
    5. Heat mustard oil in a pan and add the mustard paste and the poppy seeds paste to thicken the gravy. Add the fried fish to the this.
    6. Stir with a spatula and allow the fish to mix well with the paste.
    7. Now add the salt and some water very gently.
    8. The gravy should remain thick.
    9. Add green chillies to the mixture
    10. Serve hot with steamed rice.
