Ingredients

  • 3 cups ( 300 g ) - plain flour
  • 185 g ( 6 oz ) - lard / soften Butter
  • 5 tbsp - hot water
  • Pinch - salt
  • For custard:
  • 3 - eggs
  • 1/3 cup - Sugar
  • 1.5 cups - Milk

How to Make Homemade Chinese Custard Tarts

  • To make the pastry, sift flour and salt into a bowl.
  • Rub lard / butter into the flour, until the mixture resembles fine bread crumbs.
  • Mix in hot water, to form a firm dough.
  • Knead lightly, on a lightly floured surface.
  • Roll out into 3mm (1/8 inch ) thickness. Cut out with an 8 cm ( 3 inch ) fluted cutter. Put into greased patty tins.
  • Beat together eggs and sugar.
  • Gradually add milk. Mix in food colouring. Mix well.
  • Pour the custard carefully, into the prepared pastry cases.
  • Bake in a hot oven for 10 minutes. Reduce the heat to moderately hot. Cook further, for 10- 15 minutes, until set.
