Ingredients

  • 3 cups ( 300 g ) - plain flour
  • 185 g ( 6 oz ) - lard / soften Butter
  • 5 tbsp - hot water
  • Pinch - salt
  • For custard:
  • 3 - eggs
  • 1/3 cup - Sugar
  • 1.5 cups - Milk
  • How to Make Homemade Chinese Custard Tarts:

    1. To make the pastry, sift flour and salt into a bowl.
    2. Rub lard / butter into the flour, until the mixture resembles fine bread crumbs.
    3. Mix in hot water, to form a firm dough.
    4. Knead lightly, on a lightly floured surface.
    5. Roll out into 3mm (1/8 inch ) thickness. Cut out with an 8 cm ( 3 inch ) fluted cutter. Put into greased patty tins.
    6. Beat together eggs and sugar.
    7. Gradually add milk. Mix in food colouring. Mix well.
    8. Pour the custard carefully, into the prepared pastry cases.
    9. Bake in a hot oven for 10 minutes. Reduce the heat to moderately hot. Cook further, for 10- 15 minutes, until set.
