Ingredients

  • 1 cup - cooked basmati rice (approximately 250 g)
  • 4 - tomatoes (finely chopped)
  • 2 - onions (finely chopped)
  • 2 to 3 tbsp - ghee or oil
  • 1 tsp - cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp - black pepper corns (coarsely ground)
  • 1/2 tsp - red chilli powder
  • 1 onion (finely sliced and deep fried in oil or ghee for garnishing)
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Homemade Tomato Rice

  • Lightly heat ghee in a kadai. Add the cumin seeds and black pepper powder.
  • Add the chopped onions and saute till golden.
  • Add chopped tomatoes and cook till the tomatoes are soft.
  • Add the cooked rice.
  • Mix well till the masalas are absorbed but ensure the rice grains do not break.
