Honey Chilli Cauliflower combines the wonderful aromas and tastes of chilli and honey in the goodness of cauliflower. To make this dish, the cauliflower florets need to be washed and cleaned thoroughly before draining out the water and wiping each floret piece thoroughly.

Take the corn flour mixture, which is seasoned with salt, and coat the cauliflower florets lightly before half-frying them in hot oil until they assume a golden-brown shade. Cook until the cauliflower florets are done by reducing the heat.
Drain them out on absorbent paper.

To make the masala, fry spring onions/shallots in heated oil until they’re pinkish before adding grated ginger and sautéing for one minute. Capsicum cubes go in next and are to be fried for 3-4 minutes. Stir honey into it for one minute before adding soy sauce, lemon juice, chilli sauce, water, and corn flour, which is to be stirred until the sauce boils and thickens. Finally add the deep-fried cauliflower pieces and toss them about for 3 minutes.

Garnish with spring onion greens/ or chopped, shallow-fried garlic pieces. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 500 g - Cauliflower florets
  • 1 cup (200 g) - flour
  • 2 tsp - Corn flour
  • 1/2 tsp - salt
  • 200 ml - oil, to deep fry Cauliflower florets
  • Extra 1 tbsp - oil
  • 6 shallots, cut into slices / 2 tbsp - spring onions, chopped
  • 1 inch piece green Ginger or normal Ginger
  • 1 capsicum, remove seeds and cut into cubes
  • 2 tbsp - Honey
  • 2 tsp - Corn flour
  • 1 cup - water (200 ml)
  • 2 tbsp - Chinese chilli sauce or normal chilli sauce
  • 1 tbsp (or 3 tsp) - Lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp - soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp - Spring onion greens, for garnishing

How to Make Honey Chilli Cauliflower

  • Wash and clean cauliflower florets. Drain out the water thoroughly. Wipe each piece with a kitchen towel.
  • Coat cauliflower florets lightly with flour - corn flour mixture, which has been seasoned with salt.
  • Fry half the cauliflower florets, in deep hot oil, until golden brown.
  • Reduce heat and cook for approximately five minutes, or until the cauliflower florets softens / is cooked through.
  • Remove from oil and drain on an absorbent paper.
  • Repeat with the remaining cauliflower florets. Pour off excess oil.
  • In another pan / wok, heat 1 tbsp oil. Add sliced shallots / spring onions and fry, till light pink in colour.
  • Add peeled and grated green ginger / normal ginger to the pan. Saute gently for one minute.
  • Add capsicum cubes and fry for 3 - 4 minutes.
  • Add honey and stir for one minute.
  • Add combined corn flour, water, chilli sauce, lemon juice and soy sauce. Stir until the sauce boils and thickens.
  • Add deep fried cauliflower pieces, toss in sauce for three minutes or until cauliflower is heated through.
  • Decorate with spring onion greens. You can also sprinkle shallow fried chopped garlic. Serve hot with rice / fried rice / noodles.
