Ingredients

  • Tamarind - Lemon sized, juice
  • Red Hibiscus flowers - 7 to 8 chopped to small pieces
  • Red Chillies - 4
  • Mustard and Jeera seeds - 1 Tbsp
  • Ghee - 2 Tbsp
  • Sugar or Jaggery - 3 Tbsp
  • A pinch of Asafoetida
  • Salt to taste
  • How to Make Hoovina Gojju:

    1. Extract tamarind juice into a thick paste, not very watery.
    2. Add jaggery (or sugar), add chopped hibiscus pieces to this paste.
    3. Boil the above ingredients.
    4. Heat ghee in a kadai, add mustard and jeera seeds, allow to splutter, add red chillies and asafoetida and garnish the heated mixture with this.
