Ingredients

  • 1 cup - horse gram
  • 2 tsp - chilli powder
  • 1 tsp - cumin powder
  • 2 tsp - pepper powder
  • 1 tsp - garlic paste
  • 1 tsp - coriander powder
  • 1 cup - tamarind juice
  • 1/2 tsp - turmeric powder
  • For seasoning: 3 pods - garlic crushed
  • 2 - red chillies, broken into bits
  • 1/2 tsp - mustard seeds
  • Few curry leaves
  • 1 - small onion, sliced
  • 1 tbsp - oil

How to Make Horse Gram Pepper Water-Rasam

  • Soak the horse gram in water for a few hours.
  • Wash well then pressure cook it with 2 cups of water and 1/2 tsp turmeric powder till they are soft.
  • Add the chilli powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, pepper powder, garlic paste, tamarind juice and salt with some more water and cook for 10 minutes on low heat.
  • In another vessel heat the oil then add the curry leaves, red chillies, mustard seeds and the sliced onion and saute for some time.
  • Pour the horse gram and pepper water mixture into this seasoning.
  • Add more water if required.
  • Serve hot with plain rice and chutney.
