Ingredients

  • Ingredients for filling:
  • 1 cup - Channa dal (soaked)
  • 1 tbsp - Carrot (grated)
  • 1 tbsp - beans, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp - capsicum, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp - green peas, boiled and crushed
  • 1 tbsp - sweet corn, boiled
  • 1 tbsp - onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp - Ginger and Garlic paste
  • 1 tbsp - green chillies, minced
  • 1/2 tsp - Cinnamon and Cloves powder
  • 2 tsp - grated Coconut
  • Salt to taste
  • Ingredients to make covering:
  • 1 cup - Rice flour
  • Salt, a pinch
  • Water as required
  • How to Make Hot veg modak:

    1. Sieve rice flour and salt in a broad plate.
    2. Add boiling water little by little and keep mixing with spatula.
    3. Knead the mixture with hand to make a soft dough.
    4. Coarsely grind soaked chana dal without water and mix with all other ingredients.
    5. Make small balls of the dough and roll them into round shapes.
    6. Keep a spoonfull of filing in the centre of rolled out the dough; fold and shape like a modak.
    7. Place the modaks on a greased plate and steam in a steamer or pressure cooker for 7 to 8 minutes on a low flame.
    8. Remove and serve hot.
