Ingredients

  • 1/4 kg - Coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp - Fenugreek
  • 1 tsp - mustard
  • 50 gm - Red Chillies
  • 5 gm toor dhal
  • 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp - Asafoetida
  • Salt, to taste
  • 100 gm - Tamarind
  • 1 - onion, chopped
  • 100 gm - tomatoes, chopped
  • How to Make Hotel Sambar:

    1. Dry roast coriander, fenugreek, red chillies in a pan and powder it in a mixer.
    2. Take 2 tsp oil in a vessel, add the toor dal, 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder with a little water and cook it well till it becomes soft.
    3. Remove dal and keep aside.
    4. Into that water, add tomatoes, onion, asafoetida and allow them to cook well.
    5. Mash the cooked dal and a little tamarind juice (made with a little water).
    6. Add the required salt after everything is cooked well.
    7. Add 3 tsp of the sambar powder made and cook it till the raw smell of the powder goes.
    8. Garnish it with coriander leaves and serve.
