  • 1/2 cup - Urad Dal
  • 1 fist full - Channa dal
  • 15- 20 - Red Chillies
  • 1/4 tsp - asafetida
  • 1 tsp - sesame seeds
  • 1-2 tsp - coconut, grated
  • salt as needed

How to Make Idli Podi

  • Roast all the ingredients, except salt, separately until golden brown and allow to cool.
  • Grind the red chillies and salt first, then add the other ingredients and grind to a fine or slightly coarse powder.
  • Serve the podi with idli or sprinkle over a thin dosa spread over with ghee.
