Ingredients

  • Drumstick - 7/8
  • Toor Dal - 3 tbsp (cooked and mashed well)
  • Red Chilli - 5
  • Pepper - 2 tsp
  • Urad Dal - 2 tsp
  • Gram dal - 1 tsp
  • Coconut - 3-4 tbsp
  • Sambar powder - 2 tsp
  • Asafoetida - a pinch
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil - 2-3 tsp
  • a bit of Mustard
  • Curry leaves for garnishing
  • Rice flour -1 tsp
  • How to Make Indian Drumstick Kootu:

    1. Boil about 3 cups of water and add sambar powder and salt to it.
    2. Cut the drumsticks into 2-inch pieces and add to the boiling water. Cook well.
    3. Heat oil in a pan and fry the red chillies, pepper, urad dal, gram dal, asafoetida and coconut until golden and grind together.
    4. Add the paste to the cooked drumsticks.
    5. Add the cooked toor dal.
    6. If the kootu is slightly watery, mix some rice flour with water and add to it to get the required consistency.
    7. Splutter some mustard and urad dal in oil and add to the kootu.
    8. Garnish with curry leaves.
