Ingredients

  • ?kg - baby potatoes
  • 2 to 3 tbsp - oil
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 to 3 cloves
  • 1 stick cinnamon
  • 2 to 3 whole kashmiri chillies
  • 1.5 tsp - cumin seeds
  • ?tsp - asafoetida powder
  • 3 to 4 tbsp - heaped coriander & cumin seed powder
  • 1 to 2 tsp - red chilli powder
  • 1 heaped tsp - mango powder
  • ?tsp - garam masala powder
  • Salt to taste
  • To Garnish:
  • 2 to 3 tbsp - finely chopped coriander leaves

How to Make Jeera (Cumin Seeds) Aloo

  • Pressure cook the potatoes with a little salt till 2 whistles.
  • Cool and peel.
  • In a big kadai, lightly heat oil.
  • Add bay leaves, whole red chillies, cloves and cinnamon stick.
  • Saute lightly.
  • Add cumin seeds and asafoetida powder.
  • When the seeds splutter, lower the flame, add the coriander-cumin seed powder and keep stirring for few minutes till it is dark brown.
  • Add boiled baby potatoes and mix well.
  • Cook on a low flame till the potatoes are well coated with the masalas.
  • Add salt, red chilli powder, mango powder and garam masala powder.
  • Mix thoroughly and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Serve with hot parathas, mango pickle and curds.
