Ingredients

  • Rice - 1 cup
  • Urad Dal - 1 cup
  • Coconut - 1/2 cup
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Pepper - 1/2 tsp
  • Jeera - 1/2 tsp
  • Channa dal - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt - according to taste
  • Green chilli - 2
  • Ginger - 1/2 inch
  • Curry leaves - a few
  • A pinch of Hing
  • A pinch - of Turmeric
  • How to Make Kanjeevaram Idli:

    1. Soak rice and urad dal in water for a few hours.
    2. Wash and grind into a coarse batter adding enough water.
    3. Keep to ferment overnight.
    4. Next morning, heat oil in a pan add the rest of the ingredients, fry a bit, and then mix into the batter along with the salt.
    5. The batter must be thick.
    6. Steam in idli moulds or greased plate for 10-20 mins.
    7. Serve hot with tomato chutney or sambhar.
