  • dal(green gram)-150 gms
  • rawrice-150 gms
  • greenchillies-5-6(as per taste)
  • black pepper(12-15)
  • jeera(little)
  • curry leaves(little)
  • Cashewnuts 8 to 10
  • Ginger a pinch
  • salt to taste
  • ghee- 4tbsp
  • How to Make Kara Pongal:

    1. Soak raw rice in water for 5 minutes.
    2. Take water in a 1/2 litre vessel and let it boil. Add the raw dal(don't fry)let it come to half- boil.
    3. Add finely chopped ginger, raw rice. When it gets 3/4th cooked, add salt. Let it boil.
    4. In another kadai, warm ghee. Add black pepper, jeera and curry leaves, sliced green chillies and cashew nuts.
    5. Add this fried mixture to the pongal vessel. Allow to boil for 3-4min.
    6. Serve this with any chutney or dal sambar.
    7. If you need water for the poongal, add only hot water to it.
