Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup - Toor Dal
  • 1 - Onion
  • 1 - Tomato
  • 2 - Green chillies
  • 4 - Garlic
  • 1 tsp - Tamarind pulp
  • salt to taste
  • A few Coriander leaves
  • To splutter:
  • 1/2 tsp - mustard
  • 1/2 tsp - Fenugreek
  • 1/2 tsp - Urad Dal
  • Curry leaves
  • How to Make Karaikudi Sambhar:

    1. Put dal, onion, tomato, chillies, and garlic, and pressure cook for 3 whistles. Then strain the dal and keep aside.
    2. Heat oil in a vessel, and add mustard, fenugreek, urad dal, and curry leaves.
    3. Pour the strained dal, salt, and tamarind, and add dal water if necessary.
    4. Bring to a boil and add coriander leaves.
    5. This sambar is easy to prepare in the mornings for idlis, dosa, and pongal.
