Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup - toor dal
  • 1 - onion
  • 1 - tomato
  • 2 - green chillies
  • 4 - garlic
  • 1 tsp - tamarind pulp
  • salt to taste
  • A few coriander leaves
  • To splutter:
  • 1/2 tsp - mustard
  • 1/2 tsp - fenugreek
  • 1/2 tsp - urad dal
  • Curry leaves

How to Make Karaikudi Sambhar

  • Put dal, onion, tomato, chillies, and garlic, and pressure cook for 3 whistles. Then strain the dal and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a vessel, and add mustard, fenugreek, urad dal, and curry leaves.
  • Pour the strained dal, salt, and tamarind, and add dal water if necessary.
  • Bring to a boil and add coriander leaves.
  • This sambar is easy to prepare in the mornings for idlis, dosa, and pongal.
