  • For dough:
  • 1 cup - Fine flour
  • 7 tsp - Ghee or Oil
  • 1/2 cup - Milk
  • Cardamom powder - 1 tsp
  • Crushed Almonds - 2 tsp
  • Saffron - A pinch
  • Filling:
  • 1 cup - Coconut Flakes
  • 1/2 cup - Sugar
  • 1/2 cup - Milk
  • 2 tsp - Roasted poppy seeds (optional)

How to Make Karanji (Gujiya)

  • Mix flour, ghee or oil well. Add milk slowly to make soft pliable dough. Keep it in a container and cover it.
  • |Mix ingredients of fillings.
  • Microwave it for three minutes.
  • Stir well and microwave again for 5-8 minutes till it becomes semi-dry.
  • Now you can add cardamom powder, crushed almonds, and saffron.
  • Make small balls and roll out into thin rotis.
  • Place 1.5 tsps filling in the centre of each roti.
  • Fold over with another roti, sealing in the mixture.
  • Seal edges by pressing with a fork.
  • Cover them with a thin wet cloth.
  • Deep fry in hot gee or oil on a low flame till brown on both sides.
