Ingredients

  • 2 - medium plantains (you can use green or moderately ripe plantains but be sure they are still quite firm)
  • 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp - Red Chilli powder
  • 1/3 cup - rava (cream of wheat, sooji, farina)
  • Salt to taste
  • How to Make Kelyache Kaap (Golden Plantains):

    1. Cut each plantain in half, then make a lengthwise cut along one side just through the skin.
    2. Peel off the skin.
    3. Cut the plantain lengthwise into 1/4-inch-thick slices.
    4. In a cast-iron or non-stick skillet, heat the oil.
    5. Meanwhile, toss the plantain slices with the turmeric and chilli powders and salt.
    6. Place the rava in a plate and dredge each plantain slice in the rava, making sure both sides are well-coated.
    7. Place in the hot oil, making sure you do not overcrowd the pan.
    8. Fry each side for about 2-3 minutes on medium-high heat until golden.
