Ingredients

  • 1/4 kg - kala channa
  • 1 - raw banana
  • 1/4 kg - yam
  • 2 sprigs - curry leaves
  • 1 tsp - mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp - coconut grated
  • 3 tsp - coconut oil
  • 1/2 tsp - chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp -pepper powder
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tsp - jeera
  • 1/4 cup - water
  • 1/2 coconut grated
  • 1/4 tsp - turmeric powder

How to Make Kerala Kootu Curry

  • Soak kala channa over night.
  • Cook kala channa, pieces of banana and yam, in the cooker along with salt
  • Add pepper, turmeric and chilli powder.
  • Wait for 5 whistles.
  • Grind (1 tsp jeera, 1/4 cup water, 1/2 coconut grated) to a thick paste.
  • Splutter mustard in coconut oil with curry leaves.
  • Put the fried ingredients in pressure cooker along with the grinded paste and boil.
