Ingredients

  • 2 cups - raw Rice
  • 1 cup - grated Coconut
  • Salt to taste
  • Water to sprinkle

How to Make Kerala puttu

  • To make rice flour:
  • Soak the rice for about 3 hours and strain it.
  • Spread the rice on a cloth or a plate and dry the same.
  • Grind the dried rice to a fine powder.
  • To make puttu:
  • Add salt and water (a little by little) to the rice flour.
  • Try to make a lump out of the wet mixture and ensure that the lump does not break off. This is the right stage when you can stop adding water.
  • Now add a handful of grated coconut in the puttu maker followed by three handfuls of rice flour and again followed by one handful of grated coconut.
  • Follow this step till you reach the top of the cylinder.
  • Cover with the lid and steam for 2-3 minutes.
